Animal Interpreters  

We are seeking dynamic individuals to join our team of animal interpreters! This position is responsible for enhancing the experience of our guests through interactive interpretation, presentations and stories of our animals. The interpreter brings the tour to life by interacting with guests, anticipating questions, and sharing personal experiences.

Applicants should have great public speaking skills and have experience working with groups of all ages. Additional duties include script preparation, animal research, and live animal demonstrations. Box Office Sales 

Do you want a shark encounter everyday? Underwater Adventures at the Mall of America is currently seeking qualified candidates for full and part-time box office sales positions. These positions require energetic, mature, hardworking, team-oriented, creative individuals with a strong guest service ethic and experience in sales.

Candidates must be able to work in a fun, fast-paced, interactive and progressive environment. Duties include ticket sales, greeting and assisting visitors, providing information on all facets of the aquarium and promoting membership sales. Attention to detail and previous cash handling experience preferred.

Educator – On-site (seasonal) 

To deliver high energy, fun and educational programs to all age levels.  This includes on-site education classes, overnight programs and birthday programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Consistently deliver quality and memorable education programs, teaching guests about the ocean, its inhabitants and conservation.
  • Be knowledgeable and up-to-date on all exhibits and animals in order to deliver proper/correct information.
  • Deliver On-site Education classes to audiences of all ages.
  • Deliver 45-minute Behind-The-Scenes Tours that are both educational and entertaining.
  • Deliver Guided Aquarium Tours to audiences of all ages.
  • Deliver all Birthday Party programs based on the specifications of the different packages.
  • Deliver the “Sleep Under the Sea” overnight program based on the specifications and standards set in the training materials.
  • Set up classrooms with materials needed for onsite education classes, overnights and birthdays
    Maintain classrooms and closets after each use.
  • Acknowledge customer complaints and handle as appropriate.
  • Always thank the guest for visiting, and offer other opportunities they can explore.

Educator – Outreach (seasonal)

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be knowledgeable and up-to-date on write-ups for all programs and activities.
  • Consistently create a positive and memorable experience to our guests.
  • Be knowledgeable and up-to-date on all exhibits and animals in order to deliver proper/correct information.
  • Represent the Aquarium in a professional and positive manner at all times
  • Deliver outreach programs to groups of all ages.  Outreach programs include off-site classes, mini-assemblies and assembly programs
  • Deliver library programs in the three state region (MN, WI and IA) based on the specification of the programs
  • Deliver programming at County Fairs (classes, artifact stations, live animal stations and activity stations) based on the specifications of the package sold
  • Deliver the bouncy inflatable program (set-up, tear down and monitoring of participants) based on the specifications of the programming and package sold
  • Set up programs in the off-site locations using proper equipment and programming materials
  • Maintain vans after each use and put all necessary supplies back in their proper location

Energetic Mascot, "Sharky" (Part-Time)

We are looking for an energetic person with performance experience to entertain our mascot's fans. This is a part-time position and weekends are required. Applicants must be very good with children. INTERNSHIP: ANIMAL HUSBANDRY/Displays Department 

The  Underwater Adventures Aquarium Displays Department  is responsible for the daily care, feeding  and life support system maintenance of  a diverse collection of freshwater and  marine animals including fish, reptiles and  invertebrates.

Animal Husbandry Interns become part of the Displays team and will assist staff members with a variety of duties, including:

  • Preparing food and feeding animals
  • Maintaining exhibit aesthetics and water quality
  • Monitoring water quality
  • Maintaining behind-the-scenes area aesthetics
  • Extensive record-keeping
  • Various special projects

Interns are also required to complete a 3-5 page research paper on any marine/aquatic topic linking back to the aquarium. A minimum of two primary resources are required. Topic and thesis statement to be approved by Display Supervisor.

Internship Information:

  • Internships are unpaid.
  • Full time 40 hours or Part Time 15-20 hours
  • Interns are required to receive college credit for the internship.
  • Most internships follow the college year (Spring, Summer and Fall semesters).  Dates of the program may be adjusted to fit other school calendars or programs.

Sr. Marketing & Sales Manager

Profile

Reporting to the General Manager, you will have the enthusiasm and skill set necessary to effectively lead and grow a high energy and progressive sales and marketing team, develop a successful sales & marketing strategy for Underwater Adventures and deliver the objectives of the business against the annual strategic and EBITDAR targets.

You will have the commercial understanding to maximise revenue streams across all sales channels and maximise volume, SPH and revenue at all opportunities while ensuring that the product goes above and beyond guest requirements and continues to deliver a unique experience.  You will also have strong project management skills to drive ideas and opportunities through to completion and measure return on investment.

Strong agency and budget management skills are essential and you will be familiar with making sound decisions at a senior level. 

Ideally, you will be able to demonstrate success in the leisure or entertainment sectors. 

 

Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, you will have the persona and confidence to lead the Sales & Marketing team to deliver the attraction’s sales & marketing plan.  You will develop a channel strategy to deliver the most efficient route to market in line with overall business objectives, and manage an internal team, and external retained agencies to ensure integration across all sales & marketing activity.  This will be in line with the attractions core audience insight through innovative product development, advertising, online, PR, promotional partnerships, combined ticket plans and Trade strategies to target the Individual and Groups and Education markets.  You will be focused on achieving maximum visitor volume, SPH and revenue within these markets and ensure most efficient route to market.

Working alongside the General Manager, and Sr. Management Team, you will ensure the visitor experience continues to score above and beyond established targets, and be an integral part of new product development in line with the organizations strategic plans and CAPEX budgets.    

You will report to the General Manager with regard to performance of the attraction in line with market trends, deliver appropriate commercial marketing performance at monthly Business Reviews and also be able to represent Underwater Adventures at a senior level to external organizations.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and drive the Sales & Marketing team and retained agencies to deliver the sales & marketing strategy across all disciplines against commercial and financial results in line with the overall objectives of the business.
  • Analyze revenue and admission data to aid decision making for sales and marketing strategy to ensure budgeted revenue and admissions across all channels.
  • Understand target customer profiles and increase Underwater Adventures market share of visitation to Mall of America/Twin Cities region through integrated sales and marketing activity.
  • Negotiate, develop and communicate joint tickets and promotional activity to maximize upsell opportunities, and SPH initiatives.
  • Maximize channel strategy to deliver most cost effective route to market in line with overall sales & marketing strategy.
  • Ensure that all sales and marketing activity, including in-attraction CAPEX and temporary attraction budget, is measurable and delivers ROI against budget and revenue.
  • Work with Finance Director to determine annual admissions, SPH and revenue budget across all channels and review on a regular basis in line with attraction performance.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager ensure new product development and deliver on-brand experiences to give compelling reasons to visit.
  • Work alongside the Sr. Management Team to support in-attraction spends, and maximize guest satisfaction scores.
  • Co-ordinate with General Manager and Leadership team to deliver appropriate commercial marketing performance.
  • Develop and manage the UWA Sales & Marketing budgets.
  • Work with General Manager on 5 year strategic marketing plan encompassing financial returns, capital expenditure and team development.



Knowledge & Skills required   

  • A minimum of 5 years experience across relevant sales and marketing disciplines. Ie; advertising, media, promotions, trade, commercial, project management and online.
  • The ability to network and influence across the leisure, tourism and business sectors.
  • A passionate & driven sales and marketing professional able to influence across all levels.
  • Powerful presentation skills and the confidence to represent the business at senior level both internally and externally.

Group Sales Manager 

This position is responsible for actively pursuing sales leads in the Education and Corporate market in order to secure revenue for these areas.  This position is responsible for the sales of the following programs:  education, overnights, birthdays, scouts, corporate groups, special events, dive and snorkel.  This position plays an active role in the day-to-day operations of the Trade Sales Office.

Key Objectives
 

  • Achieve annual sales goals in all areas of the trade sales department
  • Develop and expand current customer relationships by learning more about the customers needs and matching them with Aquarium offerings
  • Sourcing new clients in the Corporate and Education markets resulting in new partnerships, promotions and revenue for the Trade Sales Office 
  • Develop new sales initiatives, in collaboration with the Trade Sales Team and the Operations Team, and strategizes ways to increase revenue.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Achieve weekly sales goals in the trade sales areas and take action if trending below the budget 
  • Participates in networking events related to the markets of education and corporate groups
  • Works with the Sales and Marketing Director, along with the Trade Sales team, in determining annual budgets, new programs, pricing and sales plans 
  • Assists in the development of all sales collateral for the corporate and education markets
  • Represents the Aquarium at trade shows relating to clients in the group sales, corporate and education markets 
  • Represents the Aquarium in several association/organizations attending meetings and networking events resulting in new partnerships and promotions
  • Serves as back-up to the Trade Sales representatives in answering incoming calls
  • Assists in coordination of events held at the Aquarium Other duties as assigned
